Please check under your tank. I got a hole in my tank from the metal clutch cable adjustment ( in the middle of the cable) rubbing and or sandwiched in between the tank and the frame. I must not have noted the last time I installed the tank. Do not let this happen to you. Check it.




Patch with JB Weld.

This is true. Where I grew up the hills were so steep and long, when your ball rolled down the hill you just said "screw it"...

bummer. now you can paint the tank green though. bonus.


you can seal that up with some caswell w/out a repaint or a tank strip. good thing you caught it. would hate to see a fireball from the south from OL PODNAH going KABOOM!

What is Caswell? I have a small hole from the throttle or choke cable and I used Seal-All. I don't trust it and I'm thinking I should have used JB Weld or something else.

Caswell makes a tank sealer called Phenol Novolac that has proven to be a very good product. I'm sure it would patch a hole fine, but it's sold in a quantity large enough to coat the inside of a tank.

Over 10 years ago, my VF500 started weeping fuel from a rust-through spot. A "temporary" repair with J-B held for over 5 years. May still be holding, but I bought a replacement tank so can't say for sure about the repair lasting beyond that.

With my '74 H1 back in the day, I ran out of gas on my way to work ( less than mile from the gas station ). I coasted into a farm ( friend of my grandfather's) and he had gas in a can. No spout but a piece of inner tube.

A little bit dribbled on the tank and ran under. I didn't think it was that much. When I kick it over, it caught fire.

Luckily his wife saw what happened and had a bucket of water ready when I ran up to the porch. I put three buckets of water on it before the farmer put it out with a fire extinguisher.

I got a ride to work and trailered the bike home after work. I cleaned it up and it ran fine after that.

But it did come off the list of fun things to do
