The early set-up works better, and rattles louder!! Never broke a piston, (or cyl.) after lotsa miles!! :)

Yeah, pretty much the same here, Rod. I have 30,000+ miles on early cylinders and big-cutout pistons, both stock and Wiseco, and never had a seizure or breakage. Plenty of rattle though, especially with the Wisecos. The stock pistons I used were being made with small cutouts by the time I needed them, so I used the milling machine to make them into big cutout pistons before I used them.

If they're bored and honed, you presumably have the pistons that the bores were matched to. So you not only need to trade, but trade for cylinders and matching pistons of the same overbore diameter. (?)

Jim, that would be ideal, but I'm open and trying to see if anyone has the right cylinders and need to even be interested. If so, then I could see where we stand with pistons, measurements and type of piston. These were bored to Wisecos, but I've not checked the clearances, but at this point I have assumed they are good. These have been together as a set on the shelf long before I got them-who knows how or why they ended up this way.

As the cylinders are now, they aren't much use, so the first thing is to get three to match, and I wouldn't be averse to going up to 2nd over if that's what it takes. I don't have immediate need as I have a couple more sets, but would like to get them sorted out for use, or sale or trade.

I've ended up with a lot of parts, and at some point before long, I want to get rid of some of the excess stuff to get things I need for the couple I'm working on. I have no plans to do any more, I'm getting old and I have several RZ350's and a bunch of Yam XS650's, too. Want to keep the best and get rid of the rest. I'm actively working on one of the H2's now. I need to get a set of your pipes and cdi boxes. :)

RB, "early cylinders are not portable to later specs" makes sense as adding material to the cast iron liner would be a bit difficult, but can series 2 cylinders be modified to 1st series specs? Has anybody actually tried this? A quick look suggests that it can be done, but I'll have to make accurate measurements to see if the transfer cutaway can actually be modded without causing problems.

I mod the cut-outs all the time, not a big deal.

I've heard the early cylinders would crack between the inlet and transfers - never seen it myself - hence the modification.
