PS!
Is it you that built the KH750 hybrid, based on a KH500 frame with moo reeded H2 and TMX35 carbs?

In case any of you guys have wondered why I've been on the board so much lately ( ), its because I've had a freaking week-long snot-filled head cold. 4 of those days I didn't get out of my spiderman jammies.
Today was the first day since last Thursday I've actually left the house.. Feels good!

And as a bonus, I got something done on the Hybrid. A package showed up a couple of days ago and in it contained (drumroll please)

THE KICKSTAND!!!!!!!!!!

So Today, I set out to make a mount... Kickstand is from a 2009 ZX-10, so not only will it hold the bike up, in theory it should make it way faster.

I didn't have any thick enough plate laying around so I cut the mount out of an H2 front upper engine mount plate. (sue me). Then welded a couple of nuts to the back side.

Remember guys, I'm welding with fluxcore, so it isn't the easiest to control... I'm getting better with it, and penetration is good (I've burned through a couple of 2# rolls just practicing and trying to break welds. Fluxcore may be a bit ugly, but it is STRONG) Nevertheless... A "REAL" welder is coming very soon.

on to the pics.

Because I wanted to keep the mounting bracket "Small", and still ensure strength, I "tucked" it in tight under Walms' left lower engine boss. I then took a chunk of tubing I sawed down the middle (making a "U") and welded that in between the back side of the engine mount and the front side of the new kickstand mount-plate tying the two together.
She isn't going anywhere now.

I used "U" tubing instead of flatstock because the ZX-10 Kickstand has a "U-shape" on the top of its own mount.

All bolted together, it looks like it was meant to be....

Shot with paint to get an idea how everything will look powdercoated....

and with the kickstand....

Still have some rear fender mounts and a few other little bits to sort out (steering stop, etc), but once that is finished, the welding is done and the frame can FINALLY be sent out for powdercoat. 8-)

thanks for following along!

thanks Mark..

once I get some real power (this thing is maxed out at 100 amps) and a bottle, it'll be like cheating.

Have been torn... my budget is $1000.00, and I only have a 40 amp circuit to dedicate to it in this current garage. (still plan on moving so will NOT be running any more power to the garage)

These factors really limit what kind of TIG I can get. I've looked at Miller's Diversion 165 (inverter based) and Lincoln's similar welder (forgot the name). These are good for up to 3/8" single pass.

The ideal plan would be a more powerful MIG (with gas) that can handle thicker material, quickly. And then get a smaller TIG for the "finesse" stuff.

Thoughts?
