DMV in CA and here does auto-reminders but sometimes I'd never get them - consequently they'd get me for the extra $100 bucks to renew an expired tag. If I did not know better I'd think there's some shenanigans going on to generate revenue :shh:

My wife didn't have to pay any extra to renew her 6+ month expired license. I guess not reminding us here in NC is just the southern way.

The DMV send you a $100 late fee fine in Michigan, then, the local County have their say and send you a $80 fine (W T F  ) - Then, they realise that their "new legislation" doesn't cover the New national VISA rules and they take the licence off you! So, I am heading down to the DMV here in Florida this morning to see if THEY will renew my licence

Sorted  - Quite bizzarely, they charged me an addition $10 for when I failed my "theory" Motorcycle test SIX Years ago :wtf: In Fact, I will research the question and see if you guys come up with the same answer as I did . . . I do remember that it was something to do with "if snowing, which part of the road would be safest to ride on" . . . . A relevant question for FLORIDA

I just got a letter from the DMV telling me they want my new medical cert for my CDL. Something must have changed as I had it for 10 years not driving a truck and they never asked for it, now it has to be updated every two years I guess.

Yes it changed. As time goes on the Feds keep adding more rules and costs. I live in Washington state and had to go through the same thing. I remember back when they started the CDL license. It was very easy to get one, just do a simple written test and your done. Now there is a formal school requirement in addition to everything else. Being as I do not currently need a CDL I opted for the intrastate only. No medical needs to be sent to the feds. Of course they wanted another $10...... for what? If you have a job they will take your money. The Feds have found another revenue source. A very high precentage of accidents involving trucks are the fault of autos. What about that?

I sort of found something in Michigans riders handbook - A motorcycle is generally ridden on the left side of the lane, in what would be the left tyre track of other vehicles, the centre of the lane is to be avoided as it is often full of debris and oils dropped by other vehicles

That places you in the same general position in the lane as the driver of a car but the right tire track is farther from oncoming traffic, assuming a two lane road. Either tire track area would be less likely to contain road debris.

Once you get a license here the first renewal is when you turn to 50, vision/eyesight test. Next one is at the age of 75 and after that annual test. Nothing else. :wtf:
