Went on a road trip Thursday and visited a fellow I met a couple of years ago at the Davenport, Iowa antique bike meet.
He had given me his card and besides motorcycles, his card said he was a Christian Minister.
My friend Mark and I drove about 90 miles to see this guy, said he had some interesting bikes.
When we got there we went into a heated shop where he had a XS1100 on the lift with custom paint, and murals of the Lord all over it. He had an XS1100 in there with a KZ1000, R5, KE125, a GS750, a Valkyrie with more murals of a spiritual persuasion, and about five other bikes I can’t bring to mind.
We went into the house and he had an original nice condition H1B on a raised platform in his living room with 100s of pieces of motorcycle memorabilia, including a 3 foot long wooden Ducati 750.
We went about 20 miles farther away and he had a least 10 more old bikes under tarps and a couple that were not tarped sitting in a metal building. With probably 10 pickup loads of miscellaneous parts, and a ’54 Oldsmobile.
Definitely into classic bikes!
He talked non-stop the whole time we were there, told us of numerous bad bike accidents he had, told up about loosing 260 pounds (he still weighs 240) told us about the 100s of bikes he had owned, all the time telling us a spiritual experiences to go with the bike stories!
What a character! Mark is not a religious person, I thought he would be put off by all the preaching, but he walked away saying he had a great evening. Having met a guy that has enough personality for ten people and how we should go back when we can ride over, but no rides with this guy, way too many bad wrecks!
Having the triples has introduced me to some great folks and some that are truly unforgettable.
