Do you see any reason why not to use thin walled (14ga/.07")/ largish diameter (.88" OD) STAINLESS tubing to brace the S3 swingarm being fitted to the hybrid?

I'd like to not add another gazillion lbs to the rear of this bike. With some strategic X's, I cant see a prob...

can any of you?

Curious as why you want to use stainless? I think mild steel tubing in the same measurments would be enough for bracing, and would also be lighter than the stainless.

True, but 304 stainless is only 2% heavier than the the same size piece of carbon steel. :)

I would use .065 x.75 personally, but that should work justttttt fine.

something like this-ish....

Image

chain clearance is gonna be close with a 50 tooth rear/16 front (using because I already have them!), but it will help with pivot clearance due to the longer shocks......

and why yes that is a tire-iron being used as a swingarm pivot bolt, and a piece of vertical grain Douglas Fir for a front sprocket locator jig!

Is this going to be a bolt on brace?
Was not aware that one could weld stainless to a carbon steel swingarm?

BTW- Before everyone jumps on the SS bandwagon, we tested some bolts a while back with a super precision torque wrench. As I recall, even Grade 3 was MUCH stronger than SS; Grade 5&8 were beyond comparrison.

A piece of 4130 alloy in that size is $26 for 6' from McMaster
just sayin
