I don’t think the average person could make a successful 60ft time on an H2 as they could on a Z.

I do one really good H2 launch in about every three attempts.

Tony told me the trick is to rev the engine past the powerband and use the clutch to bring it down into the powerband at the green light. I haven't tried that method yet.

There so different I can't imagine trying to do a comparison...but I don't have much experience with a stock H2. My stock 80' Kz1000 is WAY slower than my H2.

I decided a while ago that my Harley is like visiting you parents or maybe grandparents : its nice, comfy, does its job, and its enjoyable under the right circumstance.
My Kz1000 is like a good wife: good looking, classy, a bit sexy and does everything well and seems to like doing it never lets you down.
My GS 1150 is like hanging out with your bad friend: you may or may not get in trouble, its always faster and louder than you remember and for the most part is reliable but theres always a question.

MY H2: Its like dating a stripper, super hot, lots of comments, keep your wallet handy, and theres a good chance you might be going to jail or get hurt if things get ugly!!!!

Apparently I like strippers best!! :D

All inputs are welcomed and this isn’t even my thread. :D
We were comparing stock 1972 H2 to 1973 Z1.
Quarter mile times were very close in this particular magazine article.
Close enough that rider could be the difference.
But, The Z1 broke most motorcycle records in 1973 (24 hr endurance at Daytona, World Speed record at Daytona) and held them for several years.
Ok, I’m not discrediting the H2, they are fun, quick, and 60 some pounds lighter.
They don’t carry the resume that the Z1 does.

Same here, Apples to Oranges.
It seems the mag was testing what they thought were the best performance bikes of the day.

The early H2 was a bit quicker than the early Z1, and got around a track quicker, on average.I was there at the time. The Z1 took over in Production racing, 'cause that is where Kawasaki spent the time and money, and longer races where pit stops for fuel were needed were big at the time. I never had too much trouble with Z1's on the street, they were a big, heavy lump! More sophisticated, and a great bike of course, but H2 owners didn't have to get out the way!

I knew the voice of reason would prevail.

Cheers Jim, hope things are good! Loved the discussion on low-speed coil wiring!! There was a 100lb difference in weight, EARLY H2 to Z1, Retro 3, and that was significant. (Pretty much the same forks, wheels and brakes..........!)
