Front wheel installed. All that is left is:
Build and install front calipers and new master cylinder. Bleed brakes. Install gas tank, side covers and seat. Adjust chain and test ride :D :D

Since I had to work today and any Thanksgiving festivities will be taking place at work, I finished up the brakes. Calipers cleaned, bead blasted, painted and built.

New ebay master cylinder fit perfect. Initial bleeding was routine with the trusty Mity-Vac. Lever tied to bars to burp last of air out. No leaks and no dragging. Tomorrow I will put the tank back on, check tighten all bolts, scrub the mold grease off the new Avons and ride.....

I was rather surprised to note the new master cylinder came with stato-seal banjo bolt washers. They seem to working like a champ....

Tim, I took the mold release off the Avon Roadriders I put on the DT100 by making a couple fast passes to the overlook and back. Seriously, I never really noticed anything slippery about them, even in the first few miles. John, you remember that first dusk ride we took on the Dragon, when I first got that bike running, don't you?

I am pleased to report my birthday celebration/ maiden voyage of Project RZ went reasonably well on.the 27th I THOUGHT (There I go thinking again without the proper equipment installed) I had a front wheel out of balance and decided on dyna beads to cure the low speed front wheel hop. It turns out as embarassing as it is to admit I failed to inspect the newly mounted tire and discovered the bead not seated on the lh side for approximately 8 inches.... Thank God it didnt kill me and believe it or not it was pretty smooth above 60 MPH. So I marked the wheel where the weight was in the event I have to put it back on and dump the beads back out. Power was excellent on the bottom and on.the big end and other than the nagging 4000-6000 RPM blubbering richness it ran pretty good. After the 1st run my new $50 ebay master cylinder began leaking copious amounts of DOT 5 so I resisted the urge to sling it in the woods and instead reinstalled the freshly cleaned factory Yamaha master cylinder and bled the brakes again. It stops good now and no leaks. Forks feel perfect with the type F and Progressive Springs. Rear shock feels.good. Mother Nature has seen fit to make rain here in the Shenandoah Valley so no road test til probably Thursday. In the meantime I will be installing the Spec II VM 30s and custom throttle cable and see if it will run.
The carbs innards are as follows:
360 main
40 pilot
6DH3 needle set 1 lean
2.5 slide

I am running Toomey chambers and will begin with Uni foam pods clamped to the carbs. Is this jetting close enough to start with in anyone's experience???
Thanks in advance...

I remember Stuart had what was called "Perfect Jetting" kits for his setups. Don't have any specs for them, but I am sure it wouldn't be a giant problem to find same on the net someplace.

Stuart used to use an open K&N filter on the stock rubber air duct, for the stock carbs, worked excellent. Bigger carbs, he might have had a kit, but I never saw one, and I used to do a lot of stuff with Stuart, both at his home shop, and the one he did the pipes at. We found the stock duct for the stock sized carbs, with the single filter worked the best of anything. I built a box, and tubes out of hardware store plumbing stuff for one that had over sized, offset bored 34's, same single K&N filter element, worked excellent.

Everybody I ever spoke with, and from every one of those I ever modified/worked on, said the Toomey pipes were the best you could get for those engines, stock or modified. Stuart's brother, Ed Toomey had a shop in the South Bay area of So. Cal., did an awful lot of AFM racing, won almost every race he ever entered on an RZ350.

Sounds like your project is getting way past really nice, looks great, i know it will be spectacular when you get it done.

A bit of ball peen and a dash of channel locks and the clutch linkage and arm just barely clear the carb. They sure fill up the space. The carbs are fitted with oil nozzles and a vacuum port. Next up is the custom throttle and oil pump cable install and rig.
