Possibly a machining mistake in decking, and step cut heads to keep the cylinders out of the trash can?

I have a stack of copper base gaskets I had made for some cylinders just like that. A lift kit. Yours if you can use them.

I'm at a bit of a loss on this one. The cylinders were decked so much the piston is 1mm proud, and the heads are step cut 1mm. I have only seen this when trying to compensate for too much port timing, but the timing is very mild. So it's not making a lot of sense................ :eh:

Everything would make sense if base spacer plates (as I previously stated) were installed in the past (prolly about 2 mm +additional gasket equals 2.5mm total lift from stock).

With a stock head gasket(.5mm) you will get a 1mm squish clearance. The "mild" timing you quote would than be rather "hot".

Have you looked to see if the intake port floor has been lowered?? If it has, its another dead giveaway....

I got some background, and it did have a lift kit. The "wrench" said it was too hot of porting, so they took out the kit, and remachined the heads. That is what was throwing me off. Now I need a 1mm spacer, to get the 2mm of lift to get close to a stage two.

I suggest you contact Lani. He will make you copper base gaskets (at the total required thickness) at an EXTREMELY good price  :
