Sorry for lighting up the board with posts... but I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for by using the search.

I have had my S3 off the road for a bit while "cleaning" it up. Tonight I decided to crank it up. Well... attempt to. My kick lever is not catching and I can easily move it around with my hand. Turns the rear wheel when put into gear and lever rotated.

The clutch is disengaged, I even took the cover off to make sure.. bike is in neutral.. run switch on... plugs tight... fuel on... and it was running before sitting for a few weeks.

Potentially kick starter gear?

What am I missing?

Thanks guys,
-Jeramy

Most likely the clutch plates are stuck together. If it worked before you parked it, then the gear must be OK, so the culprit would be the plates. Make sure there is slack in the clutch cable, bump start the bike and drive around in low gear with the lever pulled in - vary the throttle as much as you can and it might break loose. Failing that, take the cover off again and gently pry the plates apart.

If the plates are stuck together, it will turn the crank
so there must be another problem, like a loose clutch

Right. Wrong term..if the plates or springs are stuck to the basket and not retracting, it's like kicking it over with the clutch lever pulled in. This could be due to not lining up the pressure plate correctly.

Would this happen if the clutch was stuck in the disengaged position???

Maybe the clutch was simply pulled when you were kicking it over...
It's the only thing that makes sense if nothing was touched.

I didn't take the clutch apart.. I replaced the cable but the actuator has slack to return all the way. It did this one time before the sitting period but went back to turning the motor after 3 or 4 free swings. I will try push starting this evening and if nothing, I'll be checking the pressure plate alignment.. but the bike does go into gear and when I disengage the clutch in first it is difficult to rotate the wheel as should be
