On the SOHC website they have a "sticky" topic "What did you do to your bike today?"

Seems like there's plenty to be miserable about lately. Everybody has their load to bear, some worse than others. No money, work stinks, family issues, health issues, miserable weather or just generally unappreciated etc etc.... But for me anyway, in the shop tinkering on some part or other.... even if you're too broke to actually build anything substantial, there's always something to clean or repair or maybe a leak to fix...whatever... and for an hour or so all is right with the world. It's cheap therapy and healthier than booze, drugs or being a couch potato. Sometimes I swear I might go mad without it...

I wish I could better develop this attitude. With ten bikes to maintain and one full blown project (still) waiting, it can seem a little overwhelming at times. My favorite task is to run fuel through the bikes to keep it fresh

Tonight I'll wash the two track bikes from a rainy Monday at Summit Point. Tomorrow the forks and shock for my Husky return from the suspension guy with new springs and valving. Hoping to race it this Sunday up in NY. Meanwhile, the seat cover for the H1, which I bought last year, sits there right on top of the bike. If it had fingers they would be pointing at me . . .

Yeah 10 bikes is cool if it's a static collection but a bit much to keep on top of if you're intent is to use them all on a regular basis. It can become the opposite of an escape and start to feel like an obligation. I got carried away for a while a few years back and started to sort of dread it a little. It's tough to find the right balance.

I've had "old bike syndrome" since the 70's.... it's the best therapy there is for a tinkerer at all levels of mechanical skill.

I was the little kid on the back of the bike in the 60's... All my uncle's friends had YDS-3's, X6 Hustlers, Honda 305 Super Hawks, and of course my uncle had the fastest one at the time (1968 A7SS). He could easily beat any of them with me on the back at a twist of the throttle.... I used to read all his bike magazines and wished I was old enough to ride all of the 2 stroke bikes at the time...... I was in love :)

I worked on the HD a little today - waiting for some bearing pullers to arrive. Worked on an old crunched H2 speedo a bit. Took the DT400 out for a spin this afternoon and popped a few wheelies - always good to calm the nerves

is your signature a hans solo qoute?
cheers mark
