I used to be anal-stupid about using a new clutch cover gasket when I pulled the cover off. I went through a period when I did this a lot and remembered a post from Moo I think - where he reused it many times with no problems.

With nothing to loose I started doing this. I did use Yamabond on the cover side and nothing where it meets the case. I was worried about the two shaft seals - Kicker and right-side shifter on my H2 but they've never leaked either.

So far I've gone through 6 cycles of NOT changing out the gasket when I pull the cover off as it comes clean and the gasket is in one piece and not damaged. I remember when I first put it on I used a light coat of silicon spray on the case side but only that one time. No leaks or oozing anywhere since and it's been a long time I've been reusing it.

I'm not saying NOT to use a new gasket, I'm saying MINE has been fine so far. If it leaks - fine I'll replace it but until then I've saved a few bucks and the hassle of keeping them in stock.

This is true. Where I grew up the hills were so steep and long, when your ball rolled down the hill you just said "screw it"...

I've re-used mine too. Unfortunately most of the time I have taken the cover off to redo something I messed up! On my S3 I have a broken gasket (at the bottom) which has a thin coat of anti-seize on it..no leaks.

Scraping gaskets is high on my "things I really Hate to do" list. I just use anti-seize on both sides, as there are locationg dowels on the motor.

I use a very thin coat of yamabond or similar on cover side and grease or anti-seize on the cases. I use to do this on valve cover gaskets on cars, back in the day. Can be reused many times.

I did the same... although I used case sealer on one side and a lick of oil on the case side when putting it together.
I even swapped out my clutch plates once by leaning the bike over instead of draining the oil.
With the above, 15 minute job, tops.

I got that tip from LC..so I tried it on the H2 this summer. Leaned her way over, took off the clutch cover...patting myself on the back. I sure was glad no one was around to see me mopping up the mess from the overflow tube...

I've reused gaskets several times. Usually the holes oval out read bad where they wont center is when I change them.
