I don't think there are any "idiots" in the conversation. We all go by experience and what we have read. I have never heard of fingers spreading so bad the plates slipped, doesn't mean it hasn't happened. I have heard of the ring breaking.

So to me that's 1 for no ring, and 0 for the ring. I would say as a safety factor, on very high hp H2's, for lots of drag racing, they are a good idea........

H2RTuner is dead right. I have had a basket failure personally with an H2 and have had hot H1 engines begin to crack off the outer fingers. Now when I do an H1, I machine the basket and add a ring. Many modern dirt bikes even have this feature built into the basket. Sorry Moo, but in this case I would strongly advise folk to "follow the instructions". Kawasaki put that part in for a reason.If you had happen to you what happened to me, you would not tell folk to leave out this part.Safety first.
