I thought that at first too, but looks like they've been "tested"....

the only real difference between your mod and these is the oval holes drilled into the 9 webs. I would agree that its been weakened a bit, but not as much as you would think since the ends of these holes appear to be radiused nicely, which spreads that load out further. That center area is quite thin anyways, and we know these discs are the epitome of OVERKILL when it comes to size, strength, etc....

I'd love to see how one of these, one of yours and a stocker stacked up against each other in some sort of "Sheer Test", where you are able to see how many lbs of force it takes to tear the disc from the carrier....and the type of failure that actually occurs.

just look at modern rotors. You would swear those buttons would sheer right off under the type of stress they are put through.

Jim? You up for some science?!!! :)

If I can remember where it is, haven't seen it in many years, I'll send you one of the first two H2R discs we drilled in the winter of 1972. It has the stock center jub, and 72 1/2 inch holes in it. It should be weighed on that same scale, and that is why, when I find it, I'll send it to you.

The ONLY reason Steve, Dave Hussey and I drilled the oringinals was to reduce both unsprung and inertial weights from the front end/brakes.

Might take me a while to remember where it is. I also have an aluminum disc that is drilled the same way. When I find it, I'll send it as well, so you can weigh it too.

I guess if I had a question, I'd go out and lock up the front wheel a few dozen times in a place where if you don't stop you won't get hurt, and see what happens.

On the other hand, when you look up and the train is actually in the grade crossing in front of us, and you grab the brake lever hard, and the disks fail, and you look over and see me, with stock disks and a whopping extra couple pounds, stopping, ask yourself if the weight savings was worth it.

Have you seen the flimsy disk on a modern dirt bike? Not to mention the fact that there are only two little bolts holding the caliper on...

There is a lot of differences if you look close. Not to say they aren't strong enough, just a lot more thin areas. Again, they have been used. But then, why were they removed? :eh: And I bet a single "cut" disc is lighter than those two together...... ;)

Come on Jim, if it's locked up, it ain't stressed anymore.............. Actually, has anyone heard of a sheared carrier rivet/bolt. I think they would just go straw/blue and change shape (warp) a bit.

Why do you have so many brake rotors Cody? Truly though, nice comparison.

JP, Is this kit still available? If so, where would I find it?
