Hi Rod! Thanks for asking... we were well west of the storm and just had a little rain and a breeze. Chris, down in Gainesville FL, emailed me to see how we did, and it turns out he was in the bad stuff. Although he's OK, the storm did quite a bit of damage in his area, and gave him a pretty big cleanup job in his yard. He also said he narrowly escaped some major damage from falling trees.

Iron is in Louisiana, and said he escaped trouble. We have some members along the storm path farther inland, but I haven't heard much about how they did. Maybe some will report in here. I'm hoping the old "no news is good news" applies.

We lost power for 3 days. Trees and powerlines are down everywhere. Some of my favorite places to ride like Chimney Rock and Lake Lure are pretty much destroyed. Most of what is on the news is about Ashville, N.C. but lots of damage in South Carolina and Tennessee also. Storm damage is a lot worse than what is shown on TV.

I'm glad you're OK, Buddy. Three days without power sucks. I've had that happen here. I saw some video from where Chimney Rock used to be. They said it was pretty much gone.

Thanks Jim. We were fortunate to get power as soon as we did. Lots of folks are still without power. Power line crews from all over are doing a great job. Very sad about Chimney Rock. Lots of good riding through there. Blue Ridge Parkway is going to be closed for a good while also.

I am involved with 4 food programs in my area, ones that have canned foods as well as fruits, veggies, meats, pastas.

I am still recovering from the hip replace surgery, arthritis isn't easy to deal with when it stops your ability to walk easily. That said, if I were able, I would have finagled a plane ride there, to help.

Now, there are a few companies, markets, distributors that service us, free products, over stock, other issues that I work with for our area recipients.

So, I have been on the phone to more than a few of them, and have arranged for those entities to send food products that have long shelf lives, to the areas and people helping to avert hunger and other issues. I also have a friend that is a scheduler at a freight carrier, with planes, trucks, and warehouses all over the country. I put together a setup for them all to work together to help the Franklin Graham Organization to get those items into the areas needed. They will help as long as needed.

I call it one small part of my volunteering, the part called "PAY IT FORWARD".

I am both happy, and relieved that you all are getting along well from this hurricane, it was, and is a giant blow to the areas and people adversely affected. Stay safe.

Thanks Dave, you are going above and beyond! We are bracing for round 2 of this mess, there are people at my work who haven't even been back to work since Helene, having their homes completely devastated. Our Grandson's best friend's mom owns an ice cream shop right on the Dunedin causeway and she sent us pictures of the water almost up to the counter. Total loss, I don't know if she will even be able to re-open. A new problem will be the yard waste, drywall, appliances and furniture that is piled by the street for removal will not be picked up before this storm hits. More projectiles to do more damage, I would not want a stove to come at my front window at 120mph! Fortunately, our neighborhood is high ground, non evacuation zone and there is nothing but small to medium branches, no household items. But there are so many people not so lucky in waterfront or low lying areas that already have streets that look like a third world country. I will be praying for this storm to move South (sorry Ft Myers) so we don't get the wind from the South side of the storm pushing water into the bay, adding to the 10-12 ft. storm surge already predicted.

The new one just got upgraded to Cat 3, not good at all.

There are some workers coming from my area, but I tried to stow away, got caught, sent home to do what I could for food, humanities. Drat!

Batten everything you can down, and get everybody to safe ground, please.

I've spoken to Lane's wife Suzanne in Greenville, SC and to Justin Howes (Jughead) in Butler, TN. Both are OK but have heavy cleanup on their properties. Jughead's area got hit hard. Along all the damage and destruction to homes and businesses, their local fire department was washed down river.

As for this next one about to hit Florida...its looking to be bad..You all stay safe and evacuate if you need to.

Hey Gang, here's an update of Chuckie and I. His mom lost the mast which is the pole that runs the power down to the meter outside the house. I finally got power yesterday so I gave him my big-ass loud generator for his mom.

Chucks house some previous water issues from that bitch Helene and Milton knocked out his power but hopefully it'll be back on by the weekend.
I had some trees that went down and the fence on the side of the house no big deal. I was blessed to have power back on within 12 hours. I didn't realize this old generator I got for $75.00 bucks at a garage sale last year actually worked great but it's loader than the Harleys at deals Gap.....forgeddabout the neighbors. By the way, I run 90 octane ethanol free which works great on a 10hp motor.

We cancelled going Barbers...go figure. Gonna miss you guys there.

On a side note, my brother house got flooded which sucked but thank God he's ok. Big prayers for those who really got hit hard and lost their homes.
Thank you to the guys who texted me to see how Chuckie and I are doing. We appreciate you guys.

They'll still be pizza and Zeppole's again at Deals Gap...
