took it for a spin. 1 mile down the road and back.

clank sounds abnormal, pulled the head.

leaking head gasket, pretty good leak. piston was very loose so I pulled the cylinder.

there's about .007 cylinder to piston clearance. its a wiseco forged piston
so im guessing the clearance should be 4-5 thou??

the porting is nothing to write home about. cleaned up exhaust port
and .005 thou raise in intake. guy probably paid some a lot of money
to put grinder marks in his cylinders.

Wiseco is .003" clearance, or the newer clearance is .0028"

Wow, that seems pretty tight. wisecos that we used in free air snowmobiles were
like .004 on 68mm piston. Cast pistons we ran tight but if you didnt have
.004 on thosse forged you would squeek um.

In the '70s, Wiseco used to specify 0.004". Times have changed.

If you set them up loose, you've already started them rattling. Just get the engine near operating temp. before full throttle work, is my H.O. :D

well these are going to need a bore job. .007 clearance now. sounded like a ball peen hammer hitting the side of the cylinders.

debating about doing the crank. rod on the one I have off seems a little sloppy.
i got a feeling if i do split the cases I,ll end up finding something in the tranny I dont like.

When in doubt about a crank rebuild, a crank seal pressure/vacuum test can help with the decision.
