Painted in my basement with DuPont's Omni line, base/clear. I also used a $12 Harbor Freight gun(because I forgot my $30 HF gun at work  ). It's a black base, green pearl in clear, then straight clear, so all the color you see is the pearl.

Very nice, how much does that tank hold - more than 17 litres??

17 liters exactly. It looks big but there is alot of open space under it. I may modify it to hold more at some point to get some more range out if it.

Well I decided to go for it after reading this post- here's my first attempt at a DYI paint job-

I bought some flat black single stage to uses for stripes, but not sure I'm going to use it. Still need to wet sand and polish the clear- has a little orange peel.
But is was fun, and I'm pretty excited about the color- exactly what I wanted from a 2 stage.

Nice sparkles :D

Looks very good Greg' really like the color.
How about some of the details like paint brand and type, application, etc.

Thanks Jim.

Sure, I used KemFx Custom paint- from www.http://www.thecoatingstore.com/

Really reasonable prices- Kembase "red/gold" metallic basecoat/clearcoat- 1.5 quart urethane kit (for motorcycles)- $74 bucks for paint, reducer, activator.
Also the 2K HS Urethane Primer Surfacer- 1.5 quart- $30
Havent used it yet, but got the KemPhlats Hot Rod Black Urethane 1.5 Quart- $32 for the stripes if I decided to.

More than enough paint too, I probably have enough to do it twice.

Used a cheap HF HVLP gun/craftsman 25gal compressor, set up a makeshift paint booth in the garage made of plastic sheathing and PVC pipe for 10x10 frame- lots of duct tape, a furnace filter/ventcap, and my shopvac to vent it.

I really had a blast! :P

Thanks Jeff-

Yours as well- I like the idea of a solid base/color flake mid coat- Looks like the color of my dodge magnum...very subtle.
