Yeah, general agreement, the ZX10-R I had was 400lbs wringing wet and a 55.5" wheel-base, bit like an early H2...... only with Horsepower, (once you got over 8,000RPM!!)

Is 490 lbs wet weight all that bad...a late H2 might go, what, 460/470 wet!? Just thinking aloud. |

I can tell you that going down to 400 (wet) is like night at day for me. Handling in twisties, acceleration, and ease of moving it around the garage (etc.) is a pleasure at 400 compared to the 500 lb. Guzzi. But no, 490 is not the end of the world, just not a weight I plan to ever own. |

The specs on the ZX10R I've seen put the wet weight at 432 to 459 depending on year, but I don't doubt you could have taken some weight off yours. What year was yours? The later ones get close to 200 hp at the crankshaft. I thought an R6 looked pretty interesting, but decided against it because I didn't think the seating position would be good for long trips. Have you seen the torque curve of the MT-07? Talk about the opposite of my H2!

I had an '06, Jim, so, last of the 'non-electronic' models, 185H.P. (Adv.) Since then they have got longer and heavier to go with the 200H.P. I can't imagine you on an R6, they are not a touring proposition! Interesting graph, they want you to rev 'em!! I loved the 10R, but in the end there is no-where to ride them or brake as hard as you can from 180MPH!!

As you pointed out, riding one on the street would be mostly frustration. My H2 is bad enough that way. The graph? I'm not sure what you meant about revving them. It's the MT-07 graph with a nearly flat torque curve from 3,000 to 9,000 rpm! A three speed transmission would be plenty, but it has six. |

My newer Suzuki 400 scooter weighs 489 lbs. They were well balanced and handled curves pretty well. Pushing around the garage is a different story, they feel Heavy and if they fell over, it would be a pain. I remember years ago a fellow with a huge heavy Goldwing. He sat it on it's side resting on the foot peg and then crouched down and pushed it up using his back and legs. He claimed Honda designed it that way and even an old lady could push it back up. |

Most Harleys are like that too. With all the stuff sticking out they only fall about halfway over, so you can do the lift-with-back thing to get all 800+ lbs of them up. |
