Are any of the H1 transmission parts interchangeable with an early 72 tranny? In particular I am interested in the forks as I have a spare late H1 transmission and my H2 has a bad 5th gear and selector fork.
Thanks,
Kevin

There are some parts directly interchangeable. I believe only 4th gear actually share the same parts. There may be one or two shift forks shared.

Have a look at Buy Kawasaki and compare part numbers between H1 and H2 of the parts you need. If they share the same number you are in luck:

H1 forks will work- all 3, but the H2 ones are a beefier casting. Shimmed correctly they will be fine in my experience.

Many thanks! All I need now is a matched set of 5th gears and I can put my motor together.

You prolly can get away with a pair of H1 5th gears. The ratio is identical. FWIW, There are active triple road racers presently using H1 gearboxes in H2s. It has been stated the slightly finer teeth of some of the H1 cogs actually lead to a stronger combo (load is spread over more teeth than the courser H2 gear).

Sorry, but you can NOT fit the H1 5th gear set to an otherwise stock H2 cluster, for the simple reason that the dogs on the H1 output shaft 5th gear won't engage in the H2 output shaft 1st gear. If you want to use the H1 5th gears you also need the H1 input shaft and 1st gear for the output shaft.

I actually have a complete H1F set of gears and shafts - I'll see if they fit!

The COMPLETE cluster is interchangeable, so the H1-F cluster will fit. All you have to do is replace the 6205N ball bearing on the input shaft with a 6305N ball bearing and you should be OK.
