Is the H1e/f/KH500 charging system up to running a 65w headlight, keeping in mind that there will be no battery to charge (has capacitor), and will be using an L.E.D. tail/brake light, turnsignals and L.E.D bulbs in gauges.

There will be no high/low beam. Just an on/off switch

Cool. I was thinking that an HID might not like the idle voltage without a battery.

I cant afford the HID kit to upgrade this headlight...... ($400.00 currently).

The LED one is more worth it, if it's well designed, but still WAY out of my price range. A few years will help... you're still young and can wait. There is a 7" round LED headlamp available for something like $250, but I imagine you're going to use a teeny one, not a 7" round.

If you are going to go to a 65W incandescent bulb I suggest you run a large wire dedicated circuit for it. I saw a chart at Daniel Stern lighting a while back and even a 1/2 volt drop effects the light output big time. :(

A relay connected to the standard hi/low switch could be used. Stern sells the relays for this too. This will give the brightest light and not over tax the weak switch/wiring of the original Kaw installation. ;) Just a thought.....

thanks J, The whole wiring harness is "home-made" so I'll be sure to run a larger gauge to the headlamp. And I dont think there is need for a relay since I wont be using the stock iggy switch either.

I'd be more concerned putting 65 watts through the hi/low switch on the handlebar, hence the relay suggestion. :)
