I know it's been talked about alot in the past, What's the easiest way to get my next project titled? stabb? or just ask the DMV? I'm in Illionois. I need to do this before I proceed.

There's another thread on this. But FYI STAAB will only do registration - at least thats what they did for me (for 5 years). Very costly.

I'll vouch for "the system" as I used it and now have a bright, shiny new title for my H1....thanks Pete

I'll 2nd that. When N.Y. wouldn't let me register because lack of title the nice lady at the counter suggested I go to VT. to register then come back and N.Y. will accept theirs. I did mine in person but that's only because I was an hour away.

I have read complaints about using services like ITS that take your payment but never produce anything. When I bought my S3 it was without title so the first thing I did was get that done.

Start off by calling your DMV or whatever they call it in Illinois and tell them you need to get a replacement title. They will tell you what you need to do. I did this in Indiana and they told me I had to have a police affidavit filled out and signed by an officer. Another call to the police and the guy drove up to my house. He called in the VIN and then signed the form. To meet the requirements, I had to cook up a bill of sale with the sellers name and address. Then I hopped over the the DMV with two pieces of paper and got my title ordered.

All states have some provision to do this. You just need to ask. For some reason, a lot of guys won't make the call.

I am not in Ill. but I did read somewhere that they offer a bonded title fairly easy.
It is my understanding you post a bond on the value of the bike, you get a bonded title then
after 3yrs? if no one claims you receive a clear title.
I could be wrong but it might be worth checking.

I guess it all depends on your state law. Give the license branch a call.

Plus, this is so easy I would never pay anyone a fee to do it.
