I am running GM HEI modules. 3 pick ups/3 modules. Essentially 3 separate iggy systems.

Needs 12vdc to run.

I invented the "small~body HEI", and do those conversions to car points type distributors.

I also was part of the GM and Delco-Remy team that designed and developed the coil in cap large diameter GM HEI ignitions

As stated above, HEI modules require a full 12 volts to operate correctly. Also, they are NEGATIVE ground only, and ground through the base plate, and/or one of the mounting screws with the thick ring

Yup, I have been involved in all sorts of automotive and motorcycle projects all my life. Some have been really fun, like Team Kawasaki Road Race U.S.A., Shelby, Holley carbs, the MotoGP years, and Chevrolet Skunkworks, some have been real pains in the posterior, like Aprilia and Ducati. and, a lot of great people, and a couple of hands full of real PITA's.

One thing to remember about the HEI modules ids that the largest voltage and ampere loading is at idle, and load decreases as the revs climb. In my testing, as much as 4.5 ohms at idle, down to roughly 1.5 or so at 10K revs.

Dave, I found at idle(650RPM 8cy.) the full size HEI is into it's current limit(6A) using the HEI coil.

Just info on the stock 4 pin GM HEI modules

Ampere loads:

Idle, 4.5 to 5.0
At 8,000 rpm's, 1.50 to 2.0

Now, consider the idle loading, 3 modules, 4.5 x 3 gives us system loading of 13.5.

I have built 2 module for twins, 3 module for triples, and two modules for a 4 stroke 4 cylinder, with no problems.

Something not widely known, the common GM 4 pin HEI module can be triggered from a set of points, it is all in the wire up.
