Looking for a recommendation for what oil to use in my H2 transmission? Also, how much oil does it take? Thanks!! |

Thanks Jim, I have a couple qts of Bell Ray gear saver 85W oil in the garage. Looks like that might be an OK option? |

One additive you DO NOT EVER WANT TO ADD IS Molybdenum. Moly is a slick fluid, but, it will coat wet clutch friction plates and cause them to slip, no matter what else, and it cannot be cleaned of the friction plates. The oil listed above is good, and so is the 85W weight. Gear oils are rated twice that of engine oils for the same viscosity, so, an 85W gear oil is comparable to a 45 weight engine oil. Any good quality natural 85W-90 or so gear oil is also fine to use. I have found synthetic gear oils to cause friction plate slipping issues as well. |

What's the recommendation about limited slip differential oil? I've assumed that the additive that reduces grabbiness and chatter also reduces clutch friction, but I don't know if that's true. |

An endless debate this one, my ZX10R handbook recommends 10/40 SE ....which is not a particularly high standard, but nothing wrong with it either, of course. Why shouldn't we use a simple, cheap 10/40 or 20/50 oil in the gearbox? (I realise the ZX is a 4-stroke....!!)

I do suspect that engine oil wouldn't do well in automotive differentials. But then I ran automatic transmission oil in my H2 for 42 years and recently took the transmission apart. I don't see any signs that the oil was insufficient in any way. |
