I am restoring a 71 H1A and im in need of a front rim (actually 2 of them). stock front rim number is 41025-056.

z1 parts.net lists 19x1.85 DID rims "1973-76 H1 500 A/B/C/D/E/F/ KH500 (Not for front drum) 41025-051

diablo cycle lists a DID 19x1.85 1969-1976 H1/A/B/C/D/E/F KH500

is there actually a significant difference in H1 rims between disc models and drum brake models?

and are the rims between those two suppliers the exact same rim?

Yes, there is, in the angle the spoke nipple holes are drilled in the bosses on the rim. The drum brake wheel angles are significantly more acute than the disk rims. If the wrong angle were used on either rim, the spokes would either bend, or run in an arc, hot straight.

That's not unusual to have blanket fitment without knowing all the differences. Send an E mail see what they say. The spoke angle may not be that different as to work.

From experience, different enough.

Got an email back from Diablo. They have laced the rim to both hub styles with success. Sounds like the hole angle isn't critically different

H2rtuner , do you know of any business that sells drum brake specific front rims for a 69-71?

I'd google Buchanan's Frame Shop in Southern California, it might still be there, they were THE experts, and, any of the various spoke wheel rim manufacturers.

Another way is to look on the various online parts carrier's parts lists, like bikebandit, motogrid, others, and see what part numbers fit what.

In wheel lacing, there is a "cross" pattern used for all wheels. Lets say a wheel has a 2 cross spoke run, hole to nipple hole, it has one angle for the spoke nipple to "aim", and the spokes cross over each other twice. If it were a 3 cross, the angle of the nipple hole would differ, to allow for the different angle into it, from the hub, with, lets say, a 3 cross spoke run.

You have a rim there, no spokes, take a spoke and nipple and thread them together though a spoke hole. Now, seat the nipple do it comes out the hole in the rim without an acute angle from the hole angle. Where does the spoke aim? That would be one side of the hub it is supposed to use.

Now, lets say it is drum brake, 9 inch diameter spoke hole. Now, take the spoke and aim the hub end to fit say, a 6 inch hub hole, and look at the nipple as it sits in the drilled hole in the rim, is it square, does the nipple still sit square on the hole, proper angle, or, does it not?

I have not seen any hole angles in rims that are set up to aim at different hub spoke hole diameters, only what they are designed to fit.

ASK THESE PEOPLE, they've been doing this since 1958,

It's not like there is no angular variance possible in a spoke hole. If Diablo didnt have a problem, i wouldnt worry. And actually, i take h2 rear 18" rims with the huge drum and lace them straight to a h1 front disc hub, no problem. Buchannons actually has a spoke kit for doing it.

It will look a little funny if you don't angle it slightly.
Take a drill same size and lean into it with a small angle
So the spoke won't look bent near the rim . Do it in each hole .
