What are the last '72 H2 frame ID and engine ID? I have conflicting Kawasaki sources. Also, what is the last production month for 72 H2? Is it May or June or something different? RB loves these types of questions.

Thanks Mr. Duney...I am aware of that page but I've seen some weird original so-called late '72 H2 (lower than H2E-23158, H2F-23671) with '73 parts. I am not sure if any of you guys have seen the same. I know some weird mixed parts like a hybrid late '70 H1 & early 71 H1A. This could happen to any model years, especially if they close out the old model and introduce the new model.

In my case, I have an H2 built in May '72 but it has '73 gauges and chrome headlight ears. I am sure there might be more but I didn't check everything. The rear wheel brake hub is black. Bike was painted black when I bought it so can't tell the what the original paint was. My bike frame is H2F-21966 and engine id is H2E-22011. Is mine '72 H2 or '73 H2A? Again, bike built date is May '72. Does anyone here have a late '72 H2 that was built in May or June '72?

Since I am restoring this bike, my dilemma is to restore as '72 paint or '73 paint? It could be one of those rare late '72 H2 model with early-bird '73 parts?...who knows?

Apart from anything else. chrome headlight ears on a '72 or a '73 have nothing to do with Kawasaki....!

I bought this bike about 15 years ago. Since the seller didn't have a title and from looking at the gauges, I always thought it was a '73 H2A. Also what threw me off for years is that my Kawasaki microfiche indicates '72 H2 I.D. is from 1 to 16999, so that led me to believe any frame ID starting with 17000 and greater can't be a '72. I am not an expert in these early H2's, I am more familiar with later H2C.

First at all your bike, according to the numbers you gave before and as you notice yourself, has been built on may 1972 cause bike with VN number before and after your have been built on may 1972
see here
http://kawasaki750h2.free.fr/index.php? ... e&artid=12

Secondly, first H2A, also built on may 1972 has a number a little higher and is, according to Kawasaki ressources:
H2E 23158 H2F-23671

seem your is still a blue (as your bike is a merican one) 72 H2 8-)

Ahh, but consider the euro gold paint scheme as an alternative, because they look sooooooo good! (Googled images).

Thanks guys for the input. It will be restored as a '72 paint scheme then. I thought there were 2 kinds of blue? baby flat blue and candy blue?
I will definitely consider looking into Euro gold.
Ah...one final thing, should I use original gauges which are '73 gauges or use the '72 gauges? Get rid of the chrome fender?
I am not sure if it is possible to find out what the original color scheme was...if RB, couldn't tell then who the hell could.
