This might be a silly question, but can you mix the cylinders? Adjust porting ?

I have two (Right & Left standard bore) H2B/C and a center Second Series (first over) cylinder.

PS - I have a couple sets of the first series but they're rough.

I will show my ignorance by saying no, only because its a pressed crank. I am sure they flow differently, and its a 120 degree crank, it will vibrate. Of course it will run..

Hmmmmm??/ :problem:

I have heard of guys boring just one cylinder after a seziure and it ran fine.
Even with one piston being 1st oversized.

Porting aside..... And I'd bore all the same if that's what was discussed. I can't follow the resource sites port drawing well between H2/A and B/C cylinders.

Barry, an H2 engine may run fine with mixed cylinders, but if it were mine I'd make sure the port timing and location was the same for all three. If the only difference were the side cutouts, I'd probably grind the smaller ones to match the biggest one. I haven't researched the subject enough to know if port timing changes and port locations always coincided with the changes to cutout size and shape, but I bet that information is on the resource site.

Both intake & exhaust ports differ between H2 & H2B/C as well as cutouts.
I have no idea what the end game is to be here but you could build it as is & see what the result is like. No doubt it would be better to match the '72 specs with the B/C cyls but it isn't too big a deal to pull the cyls if the results aren't acceptable.
Don't forget about the oil ports matching the case style being used.

Thanks Dale, Jim. I suspected as much. I went through all the threads and there was nothing about this subject so it seemed worth broaching.

I have one B/C from my other stash but no centers (they're all early ones) A couple of them have a few more bores left, no broken fins but some have heavy porting on them already. This new set was a great price and being two standard bore B/C and one first over center, no porting on them, I could not say no.

I might hunt for another B/C center over time. I'm in no rush. Just getting set up for the future.

You could build an engine with low end torque, and high rpm HP at the same time, just swap 1 cyl. for more or less of one aspect............!! (Me, I'd make 'em all like early cylinders, just because....!!) :D

Hi.

Do you know what is the differences in ex and inlets between the -73 and the -74/75 cylinders? I know of the transfer and inlet differences between early H2 (another sleeve) and all the others, but not the differences between Barry's center and the other two late cylinders.

Thank's in advance, learning something new every day!

Jørgen
