Yes, that is the way the S/KH and H racer clawss are, as shown in the bikebandit parts page illustration. That claw has both up and down shift stops.

I've seen what you are talking about Dave, is a really good idea, don't think I have the time to do that right now, but would be my next step if this detent arm is not able to control the drum positioning. The double arm is really to control drum inertia from a fast shift, and physically stop that, something I think the detent arm should be able to control.
The overshifting problem JaMoo, that was because the shift stop/ centering pin was loose (jam nut not tight at all), and let the shift claw shove the drum further than it was supposed to go, I suspect pushed it to the point of the detent arm being on top of the next pin, leaving the dogs right at their ends, and then with load the dogs shoved themselves apart and got a false neutral between first and second.

Well I like that modification a lot. You definitely lift the lever a bit more, flex the long shift shaft, then it snaps into the next gear. Shifts are really positive, and you know it shifted through the click on your toe, unlike before, you moved the lever and hoped it went in, with zero feedback. Very glad I did that, wish I hadn't been so busy with actual paying work and left it this late in the season, but oh well, won't have to wonder about it all winter now.

Excellent, sir. Any problems getting the claw centered on the drum pins using the offset stop pin?

No. I TIG weld built up both sides of the pin then filed to fit the travel each side. I opted to have the claw travel slightly less than the drum needed, about .010" clearance from the hook to the pins when the detent snapped in. All my shift lever and linkage is original and has too much slop, need to now make that go away with some new parts next.

I made nylon sleeves for the small pivots, I'm sure you could do bronze also.

Caged needle roller bearings. Radial ball bearing for the claw pivot.
