"World Superbike had previously decided to skip their North American round next year when a new date could not be agreed upon after the addition of the IndyCar race. While there was talk of a revisit to Laguna Seca in 2020, the announcement of the 2019 absence was confirmed in November. But things changed this week."

So IT'S BACK ON for July 12-14, 2019! If you can make it down, particularly on the Saturday of this weekend, bring your smoking two-stroke and hang out as they close off all of Cannery Row that day to motorcycles only!!!

From last year:

Decades ago, the 9 families that live up the canyon from Laguna got all out of shape at all the "noisy races". These were the premier races per year, AMA, Indy Car, etc. So, they sued the race track, and won. Result, there could only be 5 noisy races per year, and SCRAMP had to send all those families on fully paid vacations for those 5 events.

I don't know if all that is still in place, but it was a real PITA.

I live across the road from Laguna Seca. Can see the track from the upstairs. They still limit noisy events to a certain amount weekends. See you all there.

Myself ,Kenny and AL are currently looking into flying to the USA on Tuesday 2nd July. taking in the Mid Ohio swap meet (our 11th one!) then wednesday the 10th flying to San francisco to watch the world superbike meeting the following weekend at Laguna Seca.
Are there hotels/motels near the event?
Do they sell out?
Do we have to pre order tickets for the event?
(Valencia we attended for the final moto GP in november last year was sold out so just turning up would not work :o )
How far is the circuit from San francisco?
Any other advice appreciated?

Malc, here is a rough map of where the concentration of hotels and motels are located in relation to the raceway (followed by a map showing the actual cities names missing from the hotel/motel map). And yes, they DO sell out which is why I personally made an overnight booking back in November as soon as I noticed the Superbike event date. Being so early, there should still be plenty of places to stay at, but the closer you get to the event, the prices are likely to increase (or as soon as the places to stay find out the event date too). Note: I personally would avoid Salinas because we found it to be somewhat run down when we stayed (cheap) years ago...IMO.

One final note: Most of us Triple guys simply show up on Saturday of this event in order to ride around early, and then eventually pick a spot along Cannery Row where we park for the majority of the afternoon/evening when they close off this entire street for motorcycles only. Hopefully we will see you gents from across the pond on this fun day!!!

Thats GREAT info,
THANK YOU
I had been on google maps this afternoon so got a feel for the area and distances involved.
Im slightly ahead of the game as I have been to San fran on a family holiday 12 years ago and drove the pacific highway to LA so we are not totally blind..
I had a trip out to Dave Crussells on that trip after leaving the family shopping LOL
What a collection that is!!! AND what a great guy Dave is!
We are now in the process of planning the trip, got some GREAT help from the regular boys we meet up with at Mid Ohio but especially Rick Sines.
I prefer last minute dot com and live off your wits, as I hate organised trips but with the hotel situation at the races we need to be organised.

Neglected to mention, that summers in Monterey can sometimes reach low to mid-80°F temps (26-29°C), which is somewhat warm for the coast, so you should try to book at an establishment which has air conditioning in all of it's rooms. It may in fact turn out to be chilly on this race weekend, but you never know until that week.

And although Cannery Row extends for blocks, you gents should have no problem locating us fellow Triple guys. Tip: we normally park our bikes nearby Cooper's Pub & Restaurant.

Hey Malc, I don’t know what you have planned for Vegas, but here’s some tips from my brother and his missus' recent Feb trip:

“Red Rock Canyon -- nice, very scenic, like a mini Grand Canyon, with several hiking trails.

Gold & Silver Pawn Shop ( the one featured in the show Pawn Stars)... Interesting stuff, fun to look at.

Pin Ball Hall of Fame... Large collection of pinball and other machines from 1950s to current... It was fun playing them (most can be played).

The Donny and Marie Show... Even if you're not a fan, this is a great show.

We also went to one cheaper Buffet (Studio B Buffet at the "M" casino), and an expensive one (bacchanal at Caesar's )... Both very good.”

We’ll see you on Cannery Row on Sat - look for the smoke!
