Assuming the pistons are cut...you could always try a new set which aren't...or which are cut less. Expensive though. This is where some of the reversion and jetting issues come into play, but the cut intake skirt helps top end.

I sold my 72 a few weeks ago and guessed on jetting that would work at a lower elevation for the new owner in Florida. The bike arrived there
last Friday and he took it right to a shop for jetting and dyno tuning. Jetting as I had it was pretty close already and it pulled 80hp on the
dyno. Made me feel good that the new owner is happy with the bike.
