Manufactures are required by federal law to "chip" each speedo with what it going on and who purchased it. So the signal can be traced by local authorities for tracking purposes. So the carrier signal can determine what rpm the engine is at and also what gear you are in.

Update...

Speedhut is re-doing the gauge face. I had to chose a different backround color as they are not able to replicate what is shown on their website

I guess they are also replacing the needles (pointers) as the ones I chose don't completely glow all the way to their tip as the website photos show...

I asked why it shows the tips glowing bright, and her reply was that "they are looking into adding a disclaimer"

So, in the end...the gauge isn't going to be quite as "cool" as I had planned (peacock gray stripes with metallic silver backround, but it should actually look pretty cool at night as I just had them replace the lighter gray with white and that should really show the Kawasaki Green.

So I'll issue my final word once I get it back, installed and road-tested. As of right now, I'm indifferent, and if any of you are planning on purchasing from them, I would be sure to check to see if your design/layout is even possible before hitting the "Send Money" button as I did. Their website might show something that isn't even possible.

And speaking of Peacock Gray.. I painted the gas tank and headlight today

I decided against trying to paint on the KAWASAKI logo (I'm chicken  ), so had some custom length decals made due to John's tank being longer than original. I'll let this set up a bit, install the KAWASAKI decals and shoot a few more coats of clear.....

also finished the headlight too.. but those pics are boring.
