The 69 H1 clutch hub looks like it takes 9 steel plates since the hub doesn't have a base like the later ones. Do you use the smaller diameter plate first and then
a regular steel plate on top of it before the first friction plate? When I took it apart it had 9 steels and 7 friction plates plus the 7 expander rings. Also a friction plate should be last against the pressure plate like on H2's?

Look at http://kawtriple.com/mraxl/partsmanuals ... h1_h1a.PDF
One steel is different.

Yes I see that and have the smaller steel plate. Looks like it goes in first and then a normal size steel plate on top of it. Then a expander ring
followed by a friction plate. From the pictures it looks like the last plate is a steel one and it's against the pressure plate. That doesn't seem right running
a steel plate to the aluminum pressure plate. Think I should just stick to later bikes :?

The correct pressure plate for your early H1 is made of steel and not keyed to the hub, hence the required extra steel beside the pressure plate.

Just checked the pressure plate with a magnet, it's steel.
