One of my carbs has a damaged pilot jet thread, it 'starts' to tighten but i darent carry on as I 'know' it will ruin the thread! Is there a viable solution to this problem, ie threadlock or I was thinking of a small o ring to hold the jet in place. If the jet fell out, it'll run super rich so no drama really I have no spare carb body to swap or the funds to get another |

Simon - do you mean that the jet is stuck partially threaded or that the thread is nearly stripped and you can't tighten it up? If it is the latter, I would clean with laquer thinner and apply RED loctite (sparingly). It won't go anywhere after that as long as you have one or two threads left. |

Its the latter, thanks for that. My only concern is the crap petrol nowadays, will it dissolve the loctite? |

See Chemical Resistance Chart on page two of the Technical Data Sheet http://tds.loctite.com/tds5/docs/271-en.pdf According to this chart engine oil is worse than gasoline on the bonding strength of Loctite. I just chose 271 as an example but I think the red Loctite varieties are pretty similar. You can browse the Loctite website for more information. |
