Likely the small expansion hole in the master cylinder is still blocked. If you remove the cap you see two holes, this is the tiny second hole, try a very small piece of wire in it to clear it. Also, make sure the master cylinder piston is free to return all the way back.

Check for corrosion buildup in the caliper piston "o" ring groove. It will hinder free movement of the piston.

This is most likely correct, the hole is very tiny and it's easy to think you have it cleared when it isn't(ask me how I know). You can tell if the piston/pad is sticking by giving the caliper a little smack on the outside with a brass hammer. If it is stuck it will release so at least you can roll it to where you need to work on it.

Yes, Z1 calipers bolt right up. Z1 brake pipe from caliper to rubber hose differs from H series calipers.

Clogged return hole in the M/C ..... I have drilled them slightly larger with a tiny jet drill bit

I would caution about doing that, drilling it will leave a small burr under the hole, which is in the master cylinder bore and will kill the seal quickly, also, that hole causes lever sponginess as the very first bit of lever travel squirts fluid back up through it, a bigger hole will let more escape and cause more lever travel. With the master cylinder at rest, riding down the road, that hole is the fluid heat expansion, and pad knockoff (pull back) hole.
