My H2 has Ivan's jet kit. I put on a different set of cylinders, mildly ported and squish heads (not Moo's, somebody else.) The bike runs well. I guess due to the squish heads, jetting changed and I put the needles at the leanest setting (#1 - the top) to get the bike running right. There's still a rich spot from 1/4 - 3/8 throttle.

Having looked at the info here: http://kawtriple.com/mraxl/carb/mikunineedle.html

I thought I might try a narrower needle jet to allow for better adjustment of the needle. I believe 169 O-5 needle jet is .005 mm narrower than the stock needle jet and I don't know how much difference that will make. So I'm thinking of ordering the 169-04, which I think is .01 mm narrower than stock.

Another thought was to put the stock Mikuni needle jets back in place of Ivan's needle jets. But Ivan's website says his needle jet is an exact reproduction of the original, so that might not get my anwhere.

Has anyone here experimented with different size needle jets on stock H2 carbs?

How about a bigger slide cutaway? The chart shows the cutaway affecting mixture from 1/8 to 1/2 throttle, with the most effect around 1/4.

I try to jet more with the needle jet rather than the needle. Jetting my RGV I kept with the stock needle and bought 4 different sizes of needle jets.
Ended up with my needle right in the middle.

Jim's idea is the least expensive and I don't need to wait for parts to arrive in the mail. I wonder how much I would cut from the front of the slide "top dead center" of the cutaway?

Mike, I'm pretty sure there is some information about cutaway dimensions on the resource site. I can't point you to it from memory though.

It is .0625in per unit of cutaway. Hence a 2.0 cutaway will be .125in high.

And you don't maintain the cutaway angle, you end it at the same point the original one ended.

Cutaway experiment to start soon - probably within a week. I'll get back to you.

We had about 10 days of rain and wind (pity me.) The weather cleared up and I took the H2 on a ride with the modified slides. I removed .2mm from each slide cutaway and that was enough to clean up most of the richness at 1/4 throttle. The needles are in the same position.

Jim, thanks a lot for that idea. I was conservative on the grinding, fearing I would ruin the slides. They came out fine.

Mike......glad you got it sorted :)

I am running JA stage 1 ported cylinders and his awesome JA squish heads.........VM34 carbs with UFO's with 3.5 cutaway and a Zeeltronic Ignition controller

Spent MUCH time studying and jetting.........so pleased with the bike.........strong and streetable.........no flat spots at all.......the carbs and Zeel will give it better low end and more throttle range.........very crisp throttle response

This is my setup (not to be copied for someone elses bike, do your own jetting)
VM-34-275s.......UFO's.......mod your own slides to 3.5
220 mains
P-0 needle jet
6DH3-middle clip needles
17.5 piot jet (small due to UFO's)
1 3/8 turn air screws

Zeeltronic
23 degrees at idle
26 at 3000 rpm
carries out a bit to 23 at 5500
down to 19 at 8500
