Either the overflow tubes are cracked, (which is becoming a thing now) or as usual, restored bikes lean wayyy too far over because guys don't want to modify the kickstands. And are you setting at the lower end of the spec?

Also, aren't a lot of float bowls warped from over-tightening, which adds to leakage problems......? (John, NBD on the BFD, )

I understand the cracked tube thing but I almost never use the side stand, I'm a centerstand guy. Is it possibly the original style fuel line clamps? When gas seeps it is sometimes difficult to trace.

You can use talc to find exactly where the leaks are.

Do you mean dripping while sitting or do you mean sloshing from riding? I get the later but I always figured it had more to do with wheelies and hammering on the brakes?

Be careful of the teflon tipped needles, not all are the same, nor same as what came in a lot of carbs, especially Mikuni's. If you really need a new needle, go OEM if possible, they are set to work with the type of engine and operating vibration, conditions the stock ones did. Both the teflon "cocktail", and springs vary by actual manufacturer. One might assume that a replacement Mikuni needle would work, but be very careful with other makes of items in these carbs, especially with today's unleaded, alcohol diluted fuels.

I had a set of after market needles for an H1 that stuck closed, the teflon would actually jam on the seat bore when the bowl filled and the float shut the needle/seat. That one was really fun to find. This is one of the reasons we started setting the float levels with the carb basically on its side, to stop adding float weight to the teflon nose, ultimately jamming it into the seat, closing the hole off. It is real fun to get the carbs back together and on the engine, only to not be able to get fuel into them to run the bike to finish a tune and service carb balance.

Most are actually Viton tipped, which is probably the most chemical resistant of all rubber type products.

Pardon me, I stand corrected, Viton, NOT teflon, thank you,. John. There are a number of different "blends" of Viton as well, some more resilient than others.

I try to improve my vocabulary, it is more fun here than in a book

Now, please, what the meanning of " NBD" ?

Thank you

If a guy had one of those bowls made up on a 3-D printer, would the material hold up to gas?
