Need a little bit of help here. Can I use a Kawasaki A1 oil pump for a Kawasaki A7? A7 pumps seem to be slim pickings nowadays. Everything I read says they are the same bottom ends, except the A7 oils the two outside bearings. They do have different model numbers but, is the output really different? Any help would be greatly appreciated! If anyone has a A7 pump I am interested in purchasing it.

The pump outlet qty differs slightly 3.9-4.6cc for A1 4.7-5.5cc for the A7. A little less oil :)

2 outlets at a "fixed" volume each may be a problem.
The pumps are "positive displacement"

Not really at idle, but more so at WOT.

so..... what is the output?
each outlet or total?

Well that wasn’t the answer I was hoping for . I can’t believe that I am having such a difficult time finding an oil pump. I’m probably going to have the bike completed and will still be looking for a pump.

Just looked into the A1 and A7.
Both twins.
Both over oiled.
Both safe if not racing unless, you measure outputs on each pump outlet with oil pipes and fittings.

not bad news-but what bike?

In both cases (low/high output) the A1 pump puts out close to 83% of the A7. Both were over oiled, as mentioned above. Today's oils are SO MUCH better than what these bikes we designed for, I wouldn't worry at all about using the A1 pump on an A7.

Well looks like I have some thinking to do. I appreciate everyone’s responses. I think at this point I’m going to keep moving forward until either a A7 pump pops up or I get to the end and have to go with the A1 pump. I can get a brand new A1 pump for $225 worst case.

Well I scored a A7 pump on eBay. Between the two pumps I now have a A7 oil pump assembled. I wish Mikuni, or someone else, would produce some new oil pumps. It seems like we are all dealing with 50+ year old pumps. Anything that is nos is few and far between. Sure would be nice to have some new parts to rebuild or replace them with. Maybe someone way smarter than I could figure out how to reproduce them on a 3d printer :banghead

Both pumps are the same, the only difference if I remember correctly the A1 has a smaller diameter cable wheel, Both are marked A1 or A7

The pumps work well after 50 years, whatever, they are actually bathed in oil the whole time. And the difference in pumps is usually in the Cam wheel, bale, call it what you like! Go easy tightening the banjo screws, is all!
