So how can this be??? The suggested torque for the oil pump gear bolt on the '74 H1 is 15 ft-lbf in the manual. The bolt appears to be a m5 or m6 and the suggested general torque for those size fasteners are AT MAX only 7 ft-lbf. I ask because it just does not seem to make sense that the torque is that high and because I sheared my bolt off at around 12-14 ft-lbs of torque. As a comparison, the H1 cylinder head bolt is at max 17.5 ft-lbf.

I'm thinking of only doing torque at max up to 10 ft-lbf with blue locktite. Thoughts?

Steve

I believe that should be 5ft/lb.

It also has a special locking washer.
I used a little loctite and please don't over tighten .

I always tightened them with just a nut driver by hand Dave.
+ the locking washer of course.

Thanks. 5 ft-lbf sounds MUCH more appropriate. With lock washer and loctite. :)

So far that is the only typo I have seen in the Glenn's manual.

While I consider Glenn's the best manual for maintaining our Triples it is not without faults/errors. The Triple Maintenance Manual has attempted to correct those faults. The pinion bolt torque is one that I missed... it is now corrected.
