What is the best tool(gauge)to use for setting the float levels on our triples? I made one out of card stock but I would rather have a metal one. There is a number of choices available but I don't want to buy something that doesn't work so well. I have also been looking for a clear bowl but haven't found one yet.

It's not super critical, you have a 1mm of range. You can use a piece of paint stick, or even a large nail. I use my digital caliper......

Plastic works great... credit card, plastic info inserts in flower containers, etc.

Keep in mind that float height and fuel level are two different things (different specs, measured differently).

Can the float height be correct and the fuel level still be incorrect? If so how do you fix it? I always thought if the float level was right you were good to go.

It's two different measurements, just go by float height.

I've used a spare float bowl with a small diameter fuel hose attached to the bottom, then routed up through the little hose guide guide to adjust to the proper height. This takes several times to remove the carbs, float bowl, adjust the float, then back together and remount, check, etc.
