Post subject:  Fork rebuild parts?

I got my forks apart for a clean up and rebuild and need to get some parts ordered. These are late h1 with the steel rods. One of the piston seals is damaged, is there a source for new ones? I do have another set of forks I can take apart to try and salvage one out of if need be but I would rather replace them if possible.

Also, is there a preferred brand of seals, or one to stay away from? And what about bottom bolt seals and the drain seals? Thanks.

Factory Kawasaki seals are best. I've given up on aftermarket as they always seem to leak sooner than later.. Especially "Leak Proof" which I find irritatingly ironic.

your bottom seals (some sort of phenolic/paper/hard gasketety material?) should be fine. Just be careful when taking them out not to crack them....Or just use some aluminum or copper crush washers of similar dimensions in their place.

I also just separated my H1 inner tubes from the lower legs, but while they're apart I figured I'd give these mods a shot before reassembling them all (Leo or Moo's):

Don't stop there.
The cartridge emulators are cheap and add improved damping IMO/IME.

I am at least going to do the mods on the resource page but I am pretty sure that I am going to put the emulators in though. I think I am going to put in the MikesXS gold valve clones over the race tech ones though. There is quite a good difference in price between the two.

Does anyone know of a source for new pistons seals?

Do you mean these for the XS650? And wouldn't you have to do some mods to make these fit the H1 damper assemblies?

And which seals are you talking about - seals other than the inner fork tube "outer" seals? If so, do you have a PN?

Yes those are the clones. It will take the same amount of work to mount these as the race tech valves.

I am looking for the brownish orangey looking things in the picture. I will have to look better but a quick glance at the parts fiche looked like these were not available separately.

That's the one I figured you were referring to. I also will look into finding a suitable replacment for mine as well. I haven't taken measurements yet, but possibly something like these might work:

I don't think a rubber seal would work, it would want to twist. It's just a phelonic (SP) ring

Assuming that rubber seal would stay straight, I wonder if it would be to much friction/stiction using it. I have another set of forks I am going to try to get a seal out of. I do have a piece of Teflon bar stock I will try to machine some out of if I can't find anything.
