Post subject:  Couple questions before starting my project

Hello everyone,

New to posting on the forum and looking to start a build here shortly. I am still trying to source parts (literally have nothing) and had a couple questions...
Have a line on a 73 S2 bare frame. What are these things worth today?
Are the motors interchangeable between frames (S series)? Can the bottom end and transmission it between any of the S series bikes?

If there are some likes to information I would love to see them as well. ready to get learning and building!

Welcome to the forum, Evan. I'll let the S guys answer your specific questions, but as far as information, mraxl maintains the largest collection of triples information in the world here: http://www.kawtriple.com/mraxl We call it the resource site.

When you get a minute, you should put at least an approximate location in your user profile.

All S series have identical engine mounting/transmission. 400's have rubber mounts.

The 72 & 73 S1 & S2 have a different lower engine mount location than all other (later) S & small KH triples. If you find an S2 motor, you are good to go, If you plan to use a later 250 ( ) or 400 you will have to move the lower mounts. I was unaware of this until I stumbled onto this thread on the KH & S forum (you may want to join there too, the "little ones" are their specialty)

Excellent! Thank you for the starting place. I am up in Calgary Canada and will add it to my profile! Time to start reading.

Evan
My suggestion is NOT to start with a frame as acquiring all the parts will be expensive these days.
Buying a a nice running bike followed by buying a restored bike is the best deal IMO.

If you want to do the build for the sake of doing it yourself, I would suggest finding a complete triple that doesn't run and restore it.
There was a time that you could build it cheaper than buying it (assuming you had zero parts to start with) but those days are over.

Barrett / Jackson auctions are a great illustration of guys getting back pennies on the dollar.

Evan, we're glad you're here, but in case you don't already, it might help you to know about the Canadian triples board too, especially when you're trying to by a triple or triple parts.

Thanks Jim, I was about to clue him in on the Canuck board.
We have some fellas out West that post there as well.
Welcome to the triples world Evan, and best of luck with your build.
