Ive seen some S2s on line with different tail sections. Not sure if its a difference among years or not, S2 vs S3 or whatever. Were the seats different between the models that had the different tail sections?

there is definitely a difference.

A seat from an S2 (without the 'a') has a wider back and a gentle angle towards the seat rest. kinda like the H2's
A seat from an S2a is closer to the S3/Kh400 style.

I also think the later year has seat trim....

I know this because I have an original S2 seat pan (it has the "H" on the back similar to a seat from a H2A)... bought a replacement seat rest from what I thought was an S2, but in fact it was from an S2a. See this thread. Obviously it didn't fit correctly!

Do you need a S2a seat rest?! If so, I got one for you for a good price! ALBUM

my tail section is the more angular one.

Here is what is left of my seat pan. it was patched together 25 years ago when I got it and when I took the bike down it literally disintegrated
