After 40 plus year these just detached without any effort at all.

Has anyone had this happen to them before?

Any tips to making these connection more secure?

Thanks, Ed

Im guessing a good hand at soldering will be your best bet.
Maybe pick up a set of used controls that look terrible and have good internals.
Get a good deal on a crappy set and cannibalize them.

I think I am going to try the soldering approach first.

I think most of them are getting brittle and will try to figure out how to improve the strength of these connections.

I recall doing just this on my H2 switch terminals when I rebuilt them, just standard soldering practices, and don't use too small of a wattage iron, get some quick decent heat in there and make it flow well. Of course, cut the old wires back a little to get to new copper and tin that well first, also never, ever use lead free crap solder, that stuff is PC worthless. Use a good paste flux as well, don't rely on the cored flux only.

what DG says... Get it real clean and use a soldering gun with tips that are very small. The ones that you can dial in the wattage are helpful. Once you do it you'll be surprised how easy it is.
Good luck
