CHUCK, throw the damned thing away man.
It was meant to keep the rear tire from slipping on the rim due to the massive power of those widow maker bikes....

LOL

Totally useless unless you're running a 100+ HP triple and burning out a lot.
We always called them, "Rim Locks", and I dont recall the bead protector name from when I was working in parts.
BUT of course it was only 43 years ago and I dont know why I even sat down here before???

I always run them. If a tire gets low on pressure for some reason, but doesn't go completely flat, they give you a bit of help in limping to a place of help. Will keep a low tire in place and not let it rip the valve stem out of the tube when they stop the tire from slipping on the rim. Not easy to work with, though.

I had the Hollister, CA Kawasaki dealer put mine in when they mounted my new tires, didn't seem to be a problem at all.

Usually, when we reply, we really don't know the level of ability the OP has, so, we go into detail, so if others have the same question and are not as mechanically proficient as the OP, they get the question answered at a level they can understand.

And, Kawasaki has, in their Accessories Sales Items, "bead protector", which is a plastic curved section of channel that affixes to the rim edge, developed for mag style wheels, to stop scratch and other damage to the rim edge while changing tires with individual tire irons. These were developed long before tire machines were modified for motorcycle mag wheel use. These were first developed for use on the late 1970's/early 1980's KZ four cylinder and KZ 1300 six cylinder bikes.

Once again, answer is geared to everyone, not just one person.

Warehouse, you bring up an interesting question.
In looking at this I found an error in my listings. For H1/A it was 41024-003 that was used. It was superseded with -007 which was used for H1B, then to -008.
Yes, all H1 were 2.15 rim... can't explain why 1.85 bead lock was used or what the differences are between any of them.

Look to a different bead width on the OEM tire used for different year models, tire series. A Dunlop K70 had a different bead profile width than a Dunlop K81, for example.

The K70 was considered a simple street/road tire, the K81 a performance/race tire, different profiles, carcasses, bead dimensions.

Other makers didn't care, like Honda using both Dunlop and Bridgestone tires simultaneously for early CB750's, with a "just jam it in, it'll fit" attitude.

There wasn't much standardization between tire manufacturers on what should have been same/same back then. Also, if a narrow bead lock and tire bead were combined, it could be that there was enough room between the side of the lock and tire bead, for the tube to be forced into that gap, wear, and/or "pinch", and fail quite spectacularly.
