I just picked this 1969 machIII up last week and wanted to introduce myself and start a build thread for it. Its in pretty rough shape but it is 100% complete and original.

Its going to be a long process as expensive as parts are so ill probably rebuild the seized motor and rebuild the crank and just ride it as is for a while. Heres a shot of My 76 900ltd that i restored a few years ago.

Nice to meet you Kawboy. Also nice to see you're more interested in riding than polishing and plating. I assume you'll take a look at things like brakes, wheel bearings, steering bearings, (etc.) first.

I will definatly give it a good once over and replace anything that seems unsafe and put a new set of tires on it. Then ill start riding it to vintage swapmeets and slowly get it back to original condition.

Yeah my dad gave me the ltd when i turned 16. Probably not the best starter bike but i made it. I have an 1800 vtx that i ride when i want to be comfortable. Does anyone know if this sissy bar was a factory option on the mach? I hate it and took it off as soon as i got it home just curious if its worth hanging on to.

Not sure why, but something about the look of your LTD makes me like it.

Thanks jim. I tried to give it a nice dark look. There is charcoal pearl inside the pinstriping that only shows up in the sun.

Well I was able to get two of the cylinders off and they actually look pretty good. I need to have them mic'ed to know if I can get away with an hone and a set of rings. The crank is an aweful and will definatly be needing rebuilt so a full teardown and rebuild will be in order as soon as I come up with 2 grand
