Thanks for the advice and links so far! Lots of good info!

As far as rebuilding the engine, here is why I am leaning towards doing it. Just about every piece of rubber is dry cracked on the bike and many of the gaskets are very hard and brittle. 25 years of sitting in a Wisconsin garage, subject to different temperatures, has taken a bit of a toll on the rubber and gaskets. I worry that after some heat cycles, some seal or gasket would give. Plus I'm concerned about any rust or pitting on the crank or bearings from moisture forming from temperature changes over the years.

I would rather do everything while it's apart for cleaning, and investing the money now into the bike rather then risking a costly repair later.

That bike looks excellent and complete which should make your project go easier. We had a similar story with one of my high school buddies. Called him up and asked if he had any 2 strokes left for sale. He had a 75 H2 at one time. He said no. A year later my son calls him for advice on something and comes home with his H2 for super cheap. He felt sorry for the teen and sold him the bike. Arg! He said if he knew we liked triples he would have saved the H1R for us too.

@H-nube It's crazy where these bikes turn up! Just when you think all the good ones have been found too!

My bike is mostly complete. I'm missing a right side passenger foot peg. And I'm not sure if my bike came with a chain oiler, but if it did, that is missing.

Curious about the oil injection pump. What should I look for as far as wear on it? Is it serviceable and are parts available?

This was my big score. 1976 KH400 with 150 miles on it bought in 2012 in Anchorage, AK. Lucky I vacationed there in 2012.

NICE Find! Both tyres are original, however, I suspect that the rear has already been replaced Once with a genuine item, Yes, you should have a chain oiler, it's a strange thing to have been removed on such a stock bike, the oil pump will be fine, they rarely fail and certainly not at this mileage, and the rear footage is still available from Kawasaki! :thumbup:

Back in the 80's my buddy bought a shipping container full of triples. 14 complete bikes and back in the corner was an original H1R. Its all gone now. We got the last bike he had and the rest of his parts. Hope to have it together this summer.
