The switch houses on my Z1 were in rough shape and the reproductions are not correct and not date coded. I decided to restore them. I know this is not a triple but it can be applied to triples too and this might give someone a little incentive to fix their own up and save some cash. I got me sheathing from a place that has a few sizes and it seems to be very close to original. I used automotive trim paint from Crest because I think the sheen is quite good. I used a 1 hair brush my wife uses to paint stuff on her nails to fill in the lettering. I tried to paint them with the same degree of sloppiness the factory used. I think they turned out good.

Here is how it looked to start with. The previous owner had added about 4 inches to the harnesses, and not a quality job I must say.

The code.

Cut the bad stuff out.

I spliced the wires back like this so they would fit in the sheath.

I chemical stripped the switch houses so the detail wouldn't get beat up.

Then painted.

Wired up the new sheath.

Put it all together and painted the lettering.

The date code looks good, not too much paint.

Super job, you have a lot of patience.
Curious to know what a 1 hair brush looks like???
I never heard of such a thing....
The controls for my H1 were as bad or worse and I stripped and repainted them.
Then gave them to a yound lady artist friend and she did the lettering.
After all, who wants them to look like a 2 year old with finger paints did them eh?
:eh:
Nice job, they will look great on the Zed.

I have found the Krylon Tough Coat, Semi Flat Black, to be the closest match to most black painted triple parts.

Being a bit of a "wiring" guy I'm always glad to see someone take crap and make it right ---- better than right.
Good job, +1 work.
