I'm getting ready to clean the cases on my H1B and I've got a question about blasting media. I normally use soda on aluminium parts, but it doesn't clean light staining from surfaces. I've considered glass beads, but thought they might be too abrasive. What is the general consensus for blasting engine cases? What's the best media to use?

Thanks ya'll! :?

#80 medium glass beads is what I use. 80 PSI 1st pass and 40 PSI to knock the shine down so it doesnt look like a model car.
Here's how they look when I am done. Plus 1 on bolts in blind holes and chasing threads before and after.

Plastic beads are very good for aluminium, safe too!

If you use glass make sure you clean clean and clean and just when you think it's clean clean it again.

They use plastic-media in Aviation, less destructive if you leave any behind - not that you would, in a turbine shop.......! (Clouds don't support much weight...!) :D

Just blow all the orifices out good with your air hose and everything will be fine. Pay particular attention to the oil galleries and interior of the cases.
