I have just recieved these 72 H2 cylinders for my friend Curtis's H2 engine Im building for him.
He owns a powder coat shop in Oakland and his guys do great work. The case is done with this color as well as these cylinders and heads. He polishes the edges and then powder coats the cylinder then wipes the edge. All his dirt bikes , kids bikes and his triples and Yamahas have extremely trick looking frames wheels etc. I can post pics if anyone wants to see them.

Nice job on the bore work as usual Don K.
This one has all new parts and should run like a you know what !!

So those cylinders are powder coated Dave?
How does it hold up to heat?
They are freakin mint for sure.

How about cooling issues when coating the aluminum with a material that is not going to be a good conductor of heat and more like an insulator?
I always like the black barrels on a Triumph but believe they used a thinner insulator like paint.

Jim, here's the now infamous NASA report on the effect of paint on finned cylinders: http://www.lakeserv.net/kaw/pdf_files/paint_on_cylinders_page_5.pdf

The conclusion was that if the paint is less than 0.005" thick, cooling will be better than with no paint, due to reduced turbulence from the smoothing effect of the paint. Over that thickness, cooling is reduced. The optimum thickness in the graph on page 5 is just over 0.002".

I had forgotten about that chart but my question remains.
.002: is about the thickness of a sheet of paper; I thought powder coating was always much thicker than this
Looks cool though

I kinda wondered but all his bikes are powdercoated and thats his thing. In the Bay Area we just
ride around and raise hella make a lot of noise and have fun. It may be a problem to go to say LA.
But there are other bikes for a ride like that right? Also if something ever goes wrong it can be fixed.
Hes got a deep wallet when it comes to his bikes and cars.
Ill have this square cut out 72 with all new parts done in a couple days when the head bolts are ready.

So again everything powder coated has plenty of guys to do the work and kids bikes are tricked out , big block Chevelle
Very cool if you have the resources. The pink Honda his daughter took first in the hill climbs last weekend. These are all
iphone pics someday I told him we will use a nice camera.

Yes they are he also bought one of our board members h2 .
We were riding around a while back ,
The daytona will start in reverse sometimes so you put it in
Gear and it backs up !!
Makes it hard to stay straight shifting from second to third in reverse.
Just kidding.
