Up for sale due to my bad attitude about the bike. It's a 1979, numbers matching RD400F. Clean title in my name. I "rescued" this bike from cheezy circumstances where the guy who had it was going to do unspeakable things to it. So I paid too much for it up front, and then spend too much getting it together again. The bike is mostly stock but has has the emissions stuff removed, still has stock airbox, and has 80s style Spec II pipes on it. New Bridgestone BT45s front and back, new chain on good sprockets. New fork tubes from Franks along with seals. Rebuilt front caliper with stainless piston, new seals and pads. Everything on the bikes works, horn is a bit weak. Bike has low sperbike bars on it. Engine has a completely rebuilt crank, 50/50 chance on whether it's the original or a "regular" 400 crank. New top end. Runs pretty well, jetting is close. The bike itself is fairly clean but the bodywork has a bad rattle can white paint job. No, worse than that. Really bad. The kind you don't want your friends to see. I wasn't going to spend money on paint until the bike earned it. The seat needs a new cover. I have a bad attitude about it because while out for a ride today, it left me walking. After all I've done for this thing and this is the thanks I get. No idea why it stopped. Just flamed out. Everything I checked on the side of the road was good. I trailered it back home, did more checking found nothing wrong. Then the damn thing started first kick. I've put less than 50 miles on it since the rebuild. So somebody out there wants a real Daytona, and I have lots of bikes to build waiting on money and room on the bench. I can send pics to anyone interested. Imagine a stock white (no stripes or stickers) Daytona from 20 feet with pipes. That's what it looks like. Sweet! I can bring it with me to the Deals Gap 2-stroke meet in a couple weeks if someone seriously wants to buy it. Buy it and ride it while there, but remember it's a new motor and should be broken in properly. And hope it is more faithful to you than it is me. Ungrateful bike. ![]() $2800. Such a deal! pics: http://s382.photobucket.com/user/mgamar ... %20Special Mark Badger mhbadger at Yahoo.com 386-679- six o nine eight. I'm in Chattanooga, TN I work wacky days and hours so it may take a bit for me to get back to you. |

Good looking bike Mark hope to see it at DG. I am thinking about bringing my DS7 "rat bike" to ride around the gap a bit. I hate to bring such a ratty looking thing to the meet but it does have character. I also know there will be some other "rough bikes" there too, its all about good fun and camaraderie. |

I might bring it anyway (and the title) to get some break in miles on it, but it shares the battery with my RD350. I can only ride one at a time. I'm bringing my 350 and the GT750 to ride. I'm really looking forward to going. I haven't been there since 1990. ![]() Mark |

To me, the meet is about riding and hanging out with the guys. There are plenty of shows for the museum pieces on other weeks of the year. |

I had a great time at the Gap with you guys. The Daytona got 40 trouble free miles put on it while there. It might be a keeper now, and worthy of some nice paint. Mark |

Evans Ward wrote: Was good to meet you Mark. ![]() ![]() Yep, made it back fine. The Daytona is ported for low end and mid-range moreso than the earlier 400s. I just stuck it in third and had a great ride all the way back up the Gap, plenty of torque to pull out of the turns and to the next one without shifting. I passed a lot of bikes without ever changing gears. It turns out the clutch freeplay adjustement down in the cases needed some attention. I guess everything got bedded in and needed another adjustment once I was able to get some miles on it. I have another 400 project in the garage to build, which will be a custom bike. Daytona bodywork and engine, 400 disc brake wire wheels front and back laced to wider rims, and some performance upgrades. So the decision becomes wether to modify this bike, or sell it on and build the second bike. I'm leaning towards choice no. 2 since it will mean the creation of another 2-stroke for the road! My RD350 will probably head down the road also, to be replaced by an older YDS cafe bike project I have ideas and parts for. As long as I have a bike to ride I don't mind re-homing the ones I build. I am still slightly kicking myself for not getting the sellers info at the Gap on the orange '72 H1 project bike on the trailer. I can't help it. It stopped raining here, time for a ride! Mark |
