I picked this up about a year ago from a local gray market bike importer. Sadly it sat in a corner of his garage for some time. He had plans for it that never came to fruition. It's a 1993 TZR250 RS 3XV9. Jap spec bike that was never sold here in the US. I couldn't afford any of his nice shiny NSR250's or the other TZR250's he had that were turn key

Here's a pic before he took it apart...

After many hours of reading, posting and making friends (and connections) with some great guys on the TZR250.com forum...and lots of shopping on yahoojapan, I think I've got it pretty well sorted. What a hoot this thing is to ride! :D I scored some SP Tadeo "Jackal" pipes for it and a SUGO race CDI. Once I get it ported to SP specs this should be putting out close to 60hp! It's a bit of a Frankenstien bike as it's an RS frame but has R motor with a wet clutch. A true RS should have a dry clutch. Plus it's got some mismatched bodywork. The plan is to eventually paint it in the 50th Anniversary Yamaha Petronis Race colors! For now...I'm having a blast ripping around on it. Hope to bring it to the 2-stroke gap meet this year.

Right after buying the TZR, this jewel fell in my lap... Oops! A fully de-restricted NSR250 MC21 SE (dry clutch) It needs just a little TLC!

did the "importer" jump through the plating-hoops? or is it titled as a '75 DT175?

COOL BIKE.

Thanks!- No, I handled the tag & title work. It's registered as a 93 Yamaha TZR250...with a 9 digit VIN!! Working on getting the NSR legit now. It's surprising easy - and reasonable! :shifty:

I bet it would be impossible in California

Much more difficult, and expensive, I'm sure...but not impossible. Transferring my valid Florida title to CA wouldn't be a problem would it?

Great little racer Jim, and fast :o Blew the doors off the 400's in a straight line. With the suspension and brakes, that thing has got to be a blast to ride......see ya next weekend........ :)

When we used to race the TZ and Aprilia racers in AFM competition at Sear's Point years ago, there were a couple of racers that campaigned these TZR 250 V twins. Both of them had factory support TZ kits in them that I brought back from Japan for their owners, and they weren't slow at all, not by a long shot. They were on par with the stock, no mods TZ's of the same years.

I have one of these bikes in my collection that has a kit sitting beside it, not installed, a very rare Hans Hummel 350 cc kit.
